Mary Lou Gutierrez, M.D.
Mary Lou Gutierrez, M.D., is a UIC EAA Member-at-Large graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering. Dr. Gutierrez is an Associate Professor at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood providing clinical care as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and lecturing for the Department of Psychiatry’s Residency program. Dr. Gutierrez graduated from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1998 and completed her residency training in Psychiatry in 2002 as Chief Resident. Dr. Gutierrez completed her fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago in 2007. Dr. Gutierrez is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Illinois Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Mary Lou reflects on her time at UIC with the love of a large campus providing diverse academia and friends outside her field of study. While at UIC, Dr. Guitierrez enjoyed walking through the culturally rich neighborhoods and traveling by train and el, and it was at UIC where she met her husband senior year, in the BioEngineering program of study. Dr. Gutierrez finds a good game of Uno irresistible, is fond of cooking Mexican food and avidly follows the advancements in the neurosciences. Her goal in UIC EAA is to support and collaborate with alumni, as careers may begin in one direction and often land in a different field, carrying knowledge forward.
